Today was another day for progress. Molly seems a little stronger than yesterday, and she worked very hard with the therapists. Her fever did spike today, which always scares us. These infections keep coming. She hasn't been able to talk to us since Friday, and we are concerned that she has things she wants to say to us but can't. I guess there will be a time for everything. Waiting is hard.
Cindy O"Neil thinks there are enough swimmers signed up, but for those of you who might be interested, there are still packets available on her porch at 2045 Fairfax. If you intend to swim, she needs the registration forms returned by Thursday morning. Michaela, swim.
Molly's mentor and coach, Jimmy came to see her today. He lifted her spirits so much. Molly modeled herself after him. No red meat, no alcohol, no tobacco, no poisons in the body. Jimmy is one of those grownups with a lot of influence on young people. Fortunately, he was an excellent influence on Molly. For that we are thankful.
Good night my pretty girls. Dream of flying. We love you.

Hello Bob, Bernie, Katy and Molly, Every time I hear the word progress, I feel really good. Small steps forward are good steps. God bless all of you brave people.
Today I was walking down the street when I came across a woman with a t-shirt that said "Guess" on it. So as I passed her I said, "implants?" and she slapped me. I was on my way to a new gym to work out. They told me to wear loose fitting clothes. If I had any loose fitting clothes, I wouldn't be working out. I do have one question though, why can't kids read the bible in school, but they can in prison? Stay strong and stay cool, Denver Bob

Hard to believe you all have been struggling with this for a month now...it must seem like eternity! Glad to hear Molly is moving and meeting with a therapist. Inspite of the pain it gives her something to focus on. Please let Molly know I think of her every day. I know she is living a nightmare right now, but she and all of you will get through this. Keep the faith and lean on each other, your friends and family, they will give you the strength to get through this. I look forward to meeting all of you someday.
I know three female hipdisartics who were team mates of mine on the US Disabled Ski Team in the 80's. Two are married with kids. If you would like to get in touch with them at some point I can contact them. (1 lost her leg at 9 to bone cancer, 1 was hit by a car when she was young, and one was hit by a car when riding a motorcycle at 19. All amazing women with lots of years of experience they can share with you.)
But first let's get Molly off the trach and get those infections/ fevers under control...keep fighting Molly, you've got a bright future ahead of you!!!
Love to you all,
Martha Hill Gaskill

Bob & Bernie,

You may indeed be “ordinary parents who must deal with an extraordinary situation” but you are handling it with extraordinary grace and courage. So many people who don’t even know you have told me how impressed they are with the strength and dignity you have shown in this blog and in the Post article. Courage isn’t about handling things perfectly, or without fear; it’s about doing what you have to do even though you would give anything not to be doing it.

Just know that we are here for you anytime, for anything.

And Molly. It was SO good to see you today!! Your smile still lights up your face. I hope you enjoyed our little song. Rest well and stay strong.

Kim

Yeah Molly! You looked good today. You are such a trooper. I remember a favorite story of you. It was at the city swim meet and you had the exact time as another swimmer and had to have a swim off to see who moved on to the finals. Your coach asked if you had seen a cat play with a mouse and asked you to swim the race that way. You played with that swimmer and then at the end of the race you kicked into high gear and won that race and got yourself into the finals. I think maybe that is something to keep in mind with this challenge as well. Keep the pace, hang in there, keep up with the race as it is a distance race. Then as you start to get stronger you will again be able to pour it on and be the winner that you are. You are such an inspiration! Hang in there Bob and Bernie. I know you have had many setbacks lately but your beautiful daughter has come so far this month. Baby steps.

Hi,

In high school, my brother had a ski buddy who received a neck injury while practicing flips and was then no longer able to compete.

He underwent a significant recovery process. Then, he gradually was able to use his arms and hands again.

Next, he became a rather significant photographer and accomplished a great deal.

He underwent a huge transformation from athlete to artist.

Warm wishes,

You have a sweet spirit and positive spins are just around the corner for you. You will find a way. Love you, Sharman King (aka-Mrs. King from Merrill)

Bloom Family-
Every time I drive by East High School (at least twice each day), I pray for you. Every time I see a mailperson, or put something in a mailbox, I pray for you. Every time I see a school bus, I pray for you. I pray that God will restore Molly's health and rid her body of infections. I pray for strength, courage, endurance, hope, and joy for all of you. I pray that He will bring wonderful and unimaginable things out of this horrible tragedy. Wishing you all a day of good news and hope and even joy!

Take comfort that you are not alone. My good friend was in a similar accident with a different type of injury.
I'm hoping you can draw strength from her story. The website is listed below.
