Friday, June 30, 2006

Today was a good day. We toured the rehab floor at Children's Hospital and we are very excited about Molly moving there when she is more healed. Molly's 18th birthday is in the middle of July and we will let you know where to send cards as she may be moving soon.
The firemen who rode in the ambulance with Molly came to see her yesterday. Molly doesn't remember much of the ride, but she did remember talking to them. Thanks for coming in guys. We will see you again. Katie H and Ainslee were there and were thrilled when one of them recognized them from TV. They were going teenage girl gaga over the "hotties" after they left and Molly was just chuckling about that.
Molly is more herself every day because they are cutting down on her meds. Last night she cried and told me she just wants to get the ---- out of there and go home. She misses her cat! Sad to see her cry, but great that she has come this far! And yes to the person who has the pups. Molly has had a few canine visitors and she likes that very much.
Mr. Keller, I hope we get to see you one of these days. Your comments have been priceless and made me smile on the days when everything seemed to bleak. I need a refresher course with the gloves.
Does someone at East have video of graduation? Lisa P? When Molly gets home, I am sure she will want to see that. It won't be long.
This is another thank you to all the swimmers who have helped with Molly's recovery fund. To all the organizers, swimmers, coaches, lifeguards; thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have no idea how much this means to us. Just when you think the world has become such a horrible place, peoples' true nature shines through and gives you hope for a better future.
We want to wish everyone a safe and fun 4th of July. This is a time when families get together and have a great time. Hug your children lots! We will try to see fireworks from Molly's window.

Bob and Bernie, Has anyone advised you to get "Power of Attorney" before Molly turns 18? We have heard of parents losing decision-making options as their children become adults.

I'll try and call lisa to get you the tape, but I believe that she is out of town. It was a wonderful graduation, but we all wish that molly could have been there. When her name was read all the students gave her a standing ovation and we all clapped and cried for molly. I hope Molly continues having great days and that she has wonderful b-day!!!

Early on in this tragedy, a family member (sister?) contacted the Amputee Coalition of America for information about this very rare amputation. www.amputee-coalition.org
Since I too am a hemipelvectomy amp, I was contacted and have been following this blog since returning from our recent convention. I have so much information and experience which may help you at this time.
This has been an incomprehensible experience for all concerned, and I know you cannot imagine how life will be for Molly. Sadly, I've heard it all before, more than once. There is a small community of high level amputees just waiting in the wings to help you Molly and your family. Although most have been due to cancer (sarcoma), there are also a few traumatic amps.
We have survived, we are alive and well, out and about. We go to school, get an education, a career, a job, and can run a business. We get married, have children, raise our families. We do housework, cook meals, go shopping. We travel, and are involved in our communities, chuch and volunteer work, etc. We swim, dance and participate in sports. In other words, we do everything, that "normal" people do, we just do it with one leg, and we are happy to be alive.
Please, it's way too soon to throw out the shoes, the favorite jeans or undies.
We've literally been in your shoes and can understand the upcoming physical, emotional and mental challanges and adjustments you and your family are facing. Now that you're entering the next (and most difficult) phase of getting your life back, if and when you're ready, please contact us. We are here for you.

Molly and family,

My name is Tom, and I am a 37 year old man from the Littleton area who just moved here about three months ago from Nebraska. I am the youngest of 4 boys so never knew what it was like to have a sister. When I read of your tragedy,it brought out the feelings of grief of a sister or daughter being hurt so badly. Something just compelled me to reach out and say how sorry I am for what happened to you. I'm sure you've gotten tons of support and letters from friends, relatives and strangers alike. Are you Irish Molly? I am on my mom's side, as her maiden name is Carey. I have two cats named Maggie and Maddie. To Bob and Bernie, let me know if Molly would like a visit. My email address is tommykmaddie@yahoo.com

My best wishes,

Tom

I am glad you are getting better, I would love for you to go home soon and have a good life and be with your cats and dogs. I cannot help but feel compelled to read your blog. Even though I have never known you I can't stop thinking about the whole situation you are going through. It makes me think about what it must be like to have to go through this everyday. I pray for the strength for you to pull through this.

Molly
I think of you every day and have been reading your blog daily as I travel through South America. It brings tears to my eyes to think of what happend, but I know that you are strong and will heal. You are my inspiritation!
And, yes there is a tape of graduation for Molly, Debbie O, a parent of an East senior, arranged for a camara/photographer specalist to come to graduation, tape it and get commenets from the students for Molly. As you know, when Molly´s name was read at graduation there was a 3-4 minute standing ovation for Molly that brought tears to my eyes! It was amazing and all for an amazing Angel, Molly!
We can track this tape down or if all else fails, Gail at Spectrum Audio Visaul, the company that I contracted with to do the AV for graduation, has copies of the graduation. Feel free to e-mail me at my school e-mail lisa_porter@dpsk12.org I am checking it. I also have Lisa S., another teacher at school working on getting you a copy ASAP.
I think of you often and you are strong so you will heal from this!
I send all my Angel Love!

Hi Bloom Family!
Always such a joy to read your happy news. I am excited that you may be going to Children's Hospital - my best friend's mother is a senior physical therapist there and she's a mother of an East High Angel so I know you will be in very good hands!

I am in Denver this week visiting my family, if you would welcome a brief visit from a fellow Angel (and NYC comedian and writer) I would be so honored to meet you. I know this is an overwhelming time for everyone, but if you would welcome a laugh and a smile, please contact me (bgcrispin@yahoo.com).

If not, I completely understand and please know you are in the hearts and prayers of my family and I.

Molly, you look more like yourself everytime I see you. I love that you laugh and smile and talk and are your wonderful self again. You ROCK!!!

Hi guys....I made you chicken soup (complete with matzo balls, veggies, etc...I couldn't get there but Julie is going to put it in your fridge tomorrow...so check and see what you want fresh and what you want to freeze...there are 4 containers.. Love to you all...Terri...
and from Jeff...Hi-Molly has been in my personal prayers on a daily basis (3 times per day) and we hope she continues to heal and improve daily. I was with a customer this past week and I commented that he seemed to be limping at which time he pulled up his pant leg and showed me that he was missing his leg from the knee down. Eight years ago he had cancer in his tibia and had his leg amputated. He continued to tell me about phantom pain and how he has to deal with it. Since I read that Molly is dealing with Phantom pain, I shared that with him. He offered to speak with Molly and gave me both his cell and home numbers. He is a great person, very into athletics and I believe could relate to Molly and the challenges she is going to have to deal with. Let me know if you are interested and I can connect the two of you. If there is anything we can do for you (all of you) please let us know - Jeff

Hi Molly, Katy, Bob and Bernie!!

I was back in NY for a college re-union and just caught up with your blogs. That's wonderful that Molly may soon move to rehab. I'll make sure to let everyone at the Campus Lounge know about the progress. Speaking of that, Joanie and I would like to visit this week if that's okay. Wednesday P.M.works well for Joanie but I'll be sure to call first. Bernie, stay as strong as you've always been and Bob, keep those e-mails coming!

Best,

Joe\B.

I just got home from seeing Molly, and it was so great to see her again! I was so happy to be able to see her after 7 years. It was awkward at times, since I had no idea what to talk about. Ryan thought it was funny that she kept bringing up random things to keep it from getting too awkward. Haha.
Goodnight Molly, I hope you sleep well.

Bernie and Bob ~
Thank you for allowing us a window into how Molly and all of you are doing. You have become part of so many of our hearts ... we read Molly's blog daily and have since the first day of the blog ... we think and pray for you all many times during each and every day ... we are awed by your strength and honesty and courage ... we are so grateful to you for helping us appreciate everything in our own lives more both big and small. Thank you for being willing to share something in your life that has been so incredibly difficult with "the public" ... many of us strangers who have come to love your Molly. We are Molly's cheering section saying "you go girl!"
Molly ~
You are "Supergirl" ... Superman's got nothing over ya!
Katy ~
You are one amazing big sister!
To all the Blooms ... I'm sorry for the comment above mine. You've got enough to think about right now. We love you.

To the comment regarding limo contraband - regardless if there was any, your question of culpability is heinously misplaced. Thank the GODs Molly still has "a leg to stand on", because you don't.
Perhaps you are simply interested in cruelty?

Hello Molly,

Glad to hear you are getting back to normal and they are finally taking you off all the crappy drugs they needed to give you to keep you alive. Hopefully Childrens Hospital will be a better experience than where you are right now.

I bet your cat misses you too! Think of all the attention you will getting from the fur ball when you get home :-)

Stay strong, you are sooooo close to going home to your own bed. It will come sooner than you think.

Oh yeah, one comment to the nasty little driver/business/friend of the guilty about the drugs & alcohol found in the back packs. If you think you are going to achieve something by trying to put blame on others - I hope your dreams are riddled with the memories of that night for the rest of your life. I hope you never rest in peace, and die in jail you scumbag, becuase thats where you belong. Mr. sex offender, DUI criminal! At least those children had enough sense to make an attempt to have a safe night by hiring someome to drive them, rather than being brainless like you and getting behind the wheel of a vehicle they aren't even licensed to drive!! Looser!

Sorry to vent on your page Molly, but I couldn't let that comment go untouched!
Love ya Molly!
Sarah

To the loser limo driver and/or loser friend of loser limo driver who wrote "what about all the drugs and alcohol that were found in the kids from Molly's limo bacpacks the night of prom?......"

Are you KIDDING me?

You use THIS forum to spew your insensitive commentary that has NOTHING to do with a shockingly PREVENTABLE accident? And commentary that is apparently untrue? And certainly not part of the issue here anyway?

What a pathetic loser.
